Purpose
Statement:
Sovereign Grace Bible Church (SGBC) was borne from
the desire for an organized local church in the community of
As a local
assembly we seek, in love and obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ our
Savior and covenant head, to worship the triune God in spirit and
truth (John 4:24). This
is accomplished through continuing steadfastly in the apostles’
doctrine, in fellowship, in observing the ordinances and in prayer
(Acts 2:42). We seek to
assemble together regularly (Heb 10:25) to help one another to live
out Christ crucified (1 Cor 1:23) and to preach the whole counsel of
God (Acts 20:27). SGBC
strives to encourage, even “provoke” (Heb 10:24), one another to
take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Cor 10:5),
to build strong families (Deut 6:7) and to share the gospel with all
men (1 Cor 9:16).
We believe the
church accomplishes all of this by training men for leadership (2
Tim 2:2), affirming women in their biblical roles as daughters,
mothers and helpmeets (Tit 2:3-5) and promoting a godly view of the
culture around us and family life (1 Chr 12:32) thereby encouraging
the turning of the hearts of the parents to their children and
children to their parents (Mal 4:6, Luke 1:17).
It is our belief that this is best accomplished in an orderly
assembly of households where family members worship together.
We believe that the mutual edification, ministry,
accountability, helps and all of the other assembly commands in the
new testament scriptures, are best achieved when the local church
functions as a ‘family of families’ through biblical leadership
models and humble, God ordained authorities. In the church the
shepherd leaders are
elders and in the family they are fathers.
Those who God brings to our assembly who are single or
otherwise not worshipping as part of a family are to be enfolded
into the families of the church mutually.
